Definitions of Disability

Not all long-term disability policies are created equal. A policy's definition of disability determines when insurance benefits will start and when they will stop. Therefore, it's crucial to understand the key terms and conditions.

Which type of policy do you have?

Any Occupation

Cannot perform any job or adjust to any work considering your age, education, and work experience.

Modified Own Occupation

After an initial period (typically 24 months), you are considered disabled if you are unable to perform the material and substantial duties of any gainful occupation for which you are reasonably fitted by education, training, or experience.

True Own Occupation

You will be considered disabled if you are not able to perform the material and substantial duties of your occupation, even if you are gainfully employed in another occupation.
